Illegal downloads still rampant - 23 Dec 2008

Thousands of websites still enable users to evade the internet industry's current crackdown on peer-to-peer file sharing.

They offer major films and music titles to illegally download for free, with very little risk of being traced.

As leading entertainment figures launch a campaign to highlight the impact of internet piracy on jobs and future productions, Channel 4 News has discovered that some even contain adverts sold by the search giant Google.

No BS - So the entertainments industry wants us all to stop stealing from them. Why? they say its because we a putting future productions at risk. Ask your self this .. when was the last time you looked at how much singers and actors get paid and were shocked at how little it was? The chances are its never going to happen. The people who run the entertainment industry have been consistently shafting us over the price of films and music since day 1. Their wages have got steadily higher as the quality of their products has dropped through the floor.

The idea that the prices of software, music and films will drop if we all stop downloading illegal media is a total LIE! History has clearly shown the opposite to be true time and time again. You only have to look at the current state of the software market to get an idea of what i mean. Its considerably more difficult to copy console games and yet they can be as much as 3x the price of the same title based on PC. Prices of games software are currently the highest they have ever been yet most of the manufactures will charge YOU premium rate to talk to someone when the dam thing doesnt work right! Electronic Arts is one of the worst offenders its latest game Spore had been designed so that the user could only ever install the game 3 times before it will refuse to work again! Also what about deals for films ? Its US who make a game popular by buying it, then the software manufacture goes and makes another shitload of cash. So the software profits and the film profits combines can come to a ridiculous amount. But sadly this end total is NEVER taken into consideration when they price up the software in the first place.

Scarcity always drives up prices..NEVER lowers them.

Think about it this way if we didn't pay actors so much they would find it more difficult to screw up on drink and drugs setting a bad example for our children. If everyone keeps downloading copywriter stuff then those rich fat bastards will be forced to lower their prices and improve their quality of service.

So the title 'Illegal downloads still rampant - 23 Dec 2008' should read

'Illegal downloads force sensible prices out of the industry'
